Northwestern Memorial Hospital, employees accused of negligently sedating patient

Medical malpractice 05

CHICAGO — A deceased man's family is suing Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Dr. Nicole M. Brown and a nurse for alleged negligence and for allegedly taking insufficient measures to prevent injuries.

James Dicke, as independent administrator of the estate of Deric J. Dicke, filed a complaint on Aug. 8 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging Dicke suffered brain damage and respiratory and cardiac arrest after being administered too many sedatives by the defendants. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to properly assess and recognize that Dicke was over-sedated.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs. He is represented by Michael A. Kosner of the Deratany Firm in Chicago.
