CHICAGO — A government agency is suing Illinois Action for Children for alleged disability discrimination and violation of civil rights.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed a complaint on Aug. 28 in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, alleging the defendant engaged in several unlawful employment practices that violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges the defendant refused to accommodate a request for leave that was submitted by an employee. The defendant allegedly terminated her employment while the employee was on leave to undergo breast cancer treatment.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks to enjoin the defendant, award back pay to the employee plus interest, compensatory damages, court costs, punitive damages and any further relief this court grants. The plaintiff is represented by Gregory Gochanour, Diane Smason and Kelly Bunch of U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Chicago.
