CHICAGO — The Illinois Attorney General's Office is suing Federal Student Loan Relief and related entities, Teldebt Solutions Inc., Dean Tucci and Kenneth Wayne Halverson for alleged breach of contract, fraud, negligence and negligent misrepresentation.
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed a complaint on Oct. 13 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging consumers were misled into purchasing a service that allegedly promised to eliminate their debts. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly targeting consumers who have student loan and tax debt by promising them they could reduce or eliminate their debt by paying for their services.
The plaintiff seeks to enjoin the defendants, declare all contracts entered between the defendants and consumers to be null and void, full restitution, an order the defendant to pay a civil penalty of $50,000, plus up to $50,000 per deceptive act or unfair practice, and an additional $50,000 for each act or practice found to have been committed with the intent to defraud, court costs and any further relief this court grants.
