Zoll Services LLC, others sued for death of patient wearing defective LifeVest defibrillator

Medical malpractice 07

CHICAGO — A woman is suing Zoll Services LLC and related corporate entities; Symphony of Midway; Dr. Amer Husseini; Dr. Malkan Patel; a nurse; and an unidentified Zoll employee for alleged design defect, liability, negligence and product liability.

Angela Parker, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Samantha Parker, filed a complaint on Oct. 11 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging the defendants failed to provide Samantha Parker with a properly working LifeVest wearable defibrillator.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that, while in the defendants' care, Parker suffered a cardiac event and the LifeVest she wore allegedly did not deliver a therapeutic shock on time, leading to her death. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to properly design the vest and to make sure the LifeVest was working properly.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount that exceeds the jurisdictional limits of this court, court costs and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Joseph M. Preiser of Goldberg & Goldberg in Chicago.
