CHICAGO — A mother is suing the University of Chicago Medical Center, Dr. John Cunningham and eight other individuals for allegedly taking insufficient measures to prevent injuries in her deceased son.

Andrea Whitsett filed a complaint on Dec. 19 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging, among other things, that her son, who suffered from recurrent leukemia, sustained injuries after the defendants allegedly failed to properly perform a stem cell transplant, which allegedly contributed to the deterioration of his overall health and his death in 2015. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to properly perform a stem cell transplant on her son and to properly treat subsequent effects.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $100,000. She is represented by Anthony R. Burch of Burch & Associates in Chicago.
