Alexian Brothers, doctors allegedly failed to recognize woman's pregnancy before anesthesia

CHICAGO — A woman is suing Dr. Robert Kagan, Dr. Edgard Khoury and Alexian Brothers Medical Center for allegedly taking insufficient measures to prevent injuries.

Monique Thomas filed a complaint on Jan. 30 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging she was given general anesthesia even though she was pregnant, which allegedly forced her to terminate the pregnancy because of the risk posed to the fetus. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to recognize that she was pregnant before administering general anesthesia.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs. She is represented by Alan Barinholtz of Busse, Busse & Grasse P.C. in Chicago.
