Medical student sues anesthesiology practice, others for alleged battery during training

CHICAGO — A woman is suing Dr. Robert Molnar, individually; Midwest Anesthesiologists-HBRJ LLC; Gottlieb Memorial Hospital; and Rosalind Franklin University for alleged battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Giovanna Burns filed a complaint on Feb. 13 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging the defendants used physical force against her as she trained to use a fiber optic intubation instrument as part of her anesthesia training and education. She said the incident caused physical injuries and emotional distress.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Katherine Fahy of the firm of Winters Salzetta O'Brien & Richardson LLC in Chicago.
