American Airlines, others accused of negligence after engine allegedly blew up

CHICAGO — A woman is suing American Airlines Inc., the Boeing Company and GE Aviation Systems LLC for alleged negligence.

Latrice D. Nicks filed a complaint on Feb. 28 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging she was forced to evacuate the aircraft she had boarded on Oct. 28, 2016, when its starboard side engine allegedly failed and blew up. The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to properly service and maintain the aircraft.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs, other damages and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by Robert D. Tepper of Schenk Annes Tepper Campbell Ltd. in Chicago and David I. Katzman of Katzman Lampert in Troy, Mich.
