CHICAGO — The family of a man shot to death by a Chicago Police officer late last year are suing the Chicago Police for alleged wrongful death.
Lashundia Key, independent administrator of the estate of Aquoness V. Cathery, and Ursula Greene, mother of Cathery's daughter, filed a complaint on March 7 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging a Chicago Police officer wrongly gunned down Cathery and then falsified evidence to cover it up.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges police pursued Cathery on foot through an apartment building on Nov. 29, 2017, ending when an officer fired multiple rounds, mortally wounding Cathery as he attempted to flee. The complaint alleges Cathery never presented a firearm, yet a firearm was purportedly discovered lying near him, after the officer who fired the shots obscured his body camera and turned off his audio recorder. The complaint asserts the firearm was not Cathery's.
The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendants for monetary damages, court costs and any further relief this court grants. She is represented by attorney Daniel S. Alexander, of Chicago.
