Northwestern Medicine, others sued over man's spinal cord injury

CHICAGO — A couple is suing Northwestern Medicine, Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group, Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation and Dr. Aruna Ganju for allegedly taking insufficient measures to prevent injuries.

David and Holly Schultz filed a complaint on March 7 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging David Schultz sustained injuries while undergoing a surgical procedure near his spinal cord. The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to recognize the extent of the issue near Schultz's spinal cord and consider reasonable alternatives to the procedure.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants in an amount greater than $50,000 plus court costs. They are represented by attorney David W. Hepplewhite in Chicago.
