Metra sued for death of woman struck by train at 47th Street Kenwood station

CHICAGO — A woman is suing Metra for allegedly taking insufficient measures to prevent her daughter from being struck and killed by a train.

Dewanna Stone, independent administrator of the estate of Lateasha K. Phillips, filed a complaint on March 26 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging Phillips was standing on a wooden platform at Metra's 47th Street Kenwood stop in Chicago, waiting to board a train on Jan. 15 when the train allegedly passed by, struck her and killed her. The plaintiff holds the defendant responsible for allegedly failing to implement sufficient measures to ensure that its passengers wouldn't get hit by the train as it passed by.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000, plus court costs and other relief. She is represented by Bruggeman, Hurst & Associates, P.C. in Mokena, Ill.
