CHICAGO — A woman is suing bike club organizers and trainers, citing alleged breach of duty and negligence.

Jessica Diaz filed a complaint on April 12 in Cook County Circuit Court against Matthew Galloway, West Town Bikes NFP, Chicago Public School System and several others, alleging she was injured while participating in the defendants' bike club on May 7, 2015, when she and other members allegedly were instructed to cross an intersection when it allegedly was unsafe to do so.

The plaintiff claims she began riding faster as instructed to avoid vehicular traffic when a member of the bike club allegedly shouted at her and others to stop, which allegedly prompted her to apply her brakes suddenly to avoid striking the riders in front of her. As a result, she allegedly fell off her bicycle and sustained serious injuries.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to monitor, supervise, oversee, direct or lead the bike club in a safe and proper manner.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount greater than $50,000 in order to compensate her for her injuries and damages. She is represented by Mark A. Heftman of the Law Office of Daniel E. Goodman LLC in Rosemont.
