CHICAGO — Two siblings are suing their sister, Beatrice Johns, and Levin & Perconti LLC for alleged breach of duty.
Martha Johns Taylor and Charnet Weaver filed a complaint on April 5 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging they lost the ability to take legal action for the alleged wrongful death of their father and have not received any compensation because Johns allegedly claimed to be the only rightful heir of their father's estate under Illinois law.
The plaintiffs hold the defendants responsible for allegedly controlling, possessing and converting funds that rightfully belong to them; failing to properly admit their existence and whereabouts; failing to properly investigate the decedent's lineage; and for allegedly failing to properly disburse the proceeds of the settlement to all rightful heirs.
The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment against the defendants for damages in an amount greater than $50,000, punitive damages in the amount of $250,000 and court costs. They are represented by Jeffrey S. Deutschman of Deutschman & Associates PC in Chicago.
