Former employee accused of sharing CIB trade secrets with competitor

CHICAGO — The Corporation for International Business (CIB) filed a lawsuit on May 16 in Cook County Circuit Court, accusing Andrew F. Salaverria and his technology consulting firm Peliksa Technologies of violating the Illinois Trade Secrets Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff's trade secrets were accessed by defendant Salaverria after he resigned and refused to provide his phone and his personal property, such as swipe badges.

The plaintiff also alleges Salaverria disclosed CIB's confidential business information to direct competitor Roanoke Trade Group Inc. after he took a job with Roanoke.

As a result, CIB claims it suffered monetary damages because it cannot replace the substantial value, economic benefit and competitive advantage the defendants would gain if allowed to access and use the plaintiff's trade secrets.

CIB said it holds Salaverria and Peliksa Technologies responsible because the defendants allegedly obtained confidential information by improper means, such as downloading or storing data on remote access computers and data storage devices.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for compensatory and punitive damages, attorney's fees, litigation costs, and such other and further relief as the court deems just and proper. CIB is represented by Frederic A. Mendelsohn, Jay S. Dobrutsky, Nicholas A. Gowen, Alexander D. Marks and Alexandra N. VanDusen of Burke, Warren, MacKay & Serritella, PC in Chicago.
