CHICAGO — A Chicago Public Schools' special education teacher is suing Dorothy Manahan and Marin Gonzalez, a co-teacher and principal at his school, citing alleged civil conspiracy, defamation and tortious interference.

Daniel Rubino filed a complaint May 29 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging he suffered damages in excess of $30,000, including extreme bouts of anxiety and stress, in September 2017 as a result of the defendants' alleged creation of false statements that injured his reputation. In addition, Rubino claimed the defendants induced students to make up stories about his tendencies toward yelling at and humiliating his students.

The plaintiff said he holds Manahan and Gonzalez responsible because they allegedly created a campaign of false allegations against the plaintiff, interfered with his employment and forced him to hire an attorney.

Rubino is requesting a trial by jury; and seeking a judgment against defendants, declaratory relief, back pay, front pay and reimbursements for lost benefits, compensatory damages, punitive damages, attorney's fees, costs and other relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Jason Han of The Law Offices of Jason Han in Chicago.
