CHICAGO — A guest is suing a hotel and its massage therapist, citing alleged assault and negligent supervision.

A woman filed suit on May 30 in Cook County Circuit Court against The Ritz-Carlton of Chicago Inc., and a masseur for violation of the Illinois Gender Violence Act because the hotel allegedly allowed a female customer to be harassed on the hotel's premises.

According to the complaint, the woman visited the hotel on Jan, 12 for a massage treatment. During her massage treatment, the plaintiff claims she was subjected to inappropriate touching by the defendant masseur. She also claims that her 50-minute massage took approximately 95 minutes, and no employee of the Ritz-Carlton came to check on her.

The plaintiff said she holds the defendants responsible because the hotel allegedly failed to maintain appropriate policies and procedures for the safety of its customers and guests.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a judgment for damages in an amount greater than $50,000, award of attorney's fees and costs and other relief as the court deems proper. She is represented by Michael Oppenheimer of Erickson & Oppenheimer Ltd. in Chicago.
