Estate rep blames Homewood ManorCare for patient's death

CHICAGO — A woman  is suing nursing care facilities ManorCare of Homewood IL LLC, which does business as ManorCare Health Services-Homewood, HCR ManorCare LLC and Heartland Employment Services, citing alleged violations of the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act and the Illinois Survival Act and wrongful death.

Shirley Bailey filed a complaint June 4 in Cook County Circuit Court alleging that, from June 4- July 5, 2016, Oliver Picketts was a resident of at the defendants' facility. While in the care of the nursing facility, Bailey alleged that Picketts developed multiple pressure sores, which worsened until the time of his death.

The plaintiff said the defendants allegedly failed to adequately operate, provide service and allocate staffing resources to promote care and treatment for their residents.

The plaintiff seeks an amount greater than $50,000. She is represented by Ashley N. Hadler of Cohen & Malad LLP in Indianapolis.
