CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing Touhy and Clark LLC, an apartment building owner, for wrongful death resulting from a fire at the defendant's building.

Marisol Ceron Silva, as special administrator of the estate of Maria Silva, filed a complaint June 14 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging the apartment building owner was negligent because it did not provide properly functioning fire escapes, sprinklers and smoke detectors for residents.

According to the complaint, a fire broke out at Maria Silva's apartment on June 5, and she allegedly had no way out to escape. The plaintiff said Silva was forced to jump out of her third-floor apartment, leading to her death.

The plaintiff seeks a judgment greater than $30,000. She is represented by Mark McKenna of Hurley McKenna & Mertz PC in Chicago.
