Reel Tape accuses former employee, Chicago Tape of stealing trade secrets

Trademark 06

CHICAGO — Reel Tape Corp. is suing Chicago Tape and Label Co. LLC and Stanley Braidman, citing alleged breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and misappropriation of trade secrets.

Reel Tape filed a complaint June 21 in Cook County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff suffered and will continue to suffer losses to its business, profits and reputation because Braidman voluntarily resigned from Reel Tape to allegedly form a direct competitor while misappropriating plaintiff's trade secrets and other confidential information.

Reel Tape said the defendants allegedly disclosed its trade secrets and other confidential information and created a direct competitor by using trade secrets and confidential information in violation of a non-disclosure agreement.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an award of compensatory and punitive damages, attorney's fees and further relief as the court may deem just. It is represented by Mark Brookstein and Alison Constantine of Gould & Ratner LLP in Chicago.
