CHICAGO — A husband and father is suing the city of Chicago and a motorist identifed as Terrance Allen, after his wife was killed when her vehicle was allegedly struck by Allen's while he was being pursued by Chicago Police.
Henry Harrell, independent administrator of the estate of the late Stacy Vaughn-Harrell, filed a complaint June 19 in Cook County Circuit Court.
According to the complaint, Vaughn-Harrell was driving in the city on June 24, 2017, when her vehicle was stopped by the Chicago Police, who were pursuing Allen's vehicle.
Harrell alleges Allen's vehicle struck the driver side of Vaughn-Harrell's vehicle. She later died from her injuries.
The plaintiff claims he and his children have been deprived of the society, companionship, love and affection of Vaughn-Harrell.
Henry Harrell claims the city is responsible because the police officer allegedly failed to conduct its traffic stops in accordance with department policies.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a judgment in an amount greater than $30,000, plus costs of the lawsuit. He is represented by attorney Steve McMullen, of Chicago.
