Estate administrator blames Aperion for patient's death

Medical malpractice 09

CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing nursing care facilities Aperion Care Spring Valley LLC, Aperion Care Inc. and Aperion Consulting LLC and two nurses, citing alleged negligent supervision.

Gene Dixon, as administrator of the estate of the late Adele Dixon, filed a complaint June 26 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants for alleged violations of the Nursing Home Care Act.

According to the complaint, Adele Dixon was a resident of the defendants' long-term care facility beginning on Oct. 27, 2016. Gene Dixon said Adele Dixon allegedly did not receive proper care and treatment to prevent the development and deterioration of pressure sores, causing her to develop a stage IV sacral pressure ulcer with sepsis.

As a result, the plaintiff said Adele Dixon suffered unnecessary pain and suffering and deterioration of her physical, mental and psychological condition, contributing to her death on Feb. 4, 2017.

Gene Dixon alleges the defendants failed to properly and adequately supervise and monitor Adele Dixon and failed to properly assess and treat the changes in her health.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a judgment in an amount greater than $50,000. She is represented by Andrew Thut of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
