CHICAGO — An independent furniture sales representative firm is suing Coast to Coast Designs Inc., citing alleged breach of contract, unjust enrichment and violation of the Illinois Sales Representative Act.

Loop Studio LLC filed a complaint July 3 in Cook County Circuit Court, claiming Coast to Coast refused to to pay the plaintiff's commission on post-termination sales.

According to the complaint, Loop Studio, through Nicole Stark Aral, entered into a verbal agreement in February 2014 with then-Bluecoast part-owner Douglas Olson to serve as an independent sales representative for Bluecoast Hospitality LLC. The plaintiff served in that capacity through June 22, 2018.

The plaintiff claims no agreement was made restricting Loop and Aral from serving as a sales representative for other manufacturers or competitors. Olson began to conduct business with the defendant after he parted ways with Bluecoast and made an agreement with Aral that Loop Studio would continue to represent Bluecoast on the same terms the parties had agreed upon in February 2014.

The plaintiff said Coast to Coast allegedly was aware Loop Studio was representing other manufacturers and did not raise any objection before March.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a judgment in the amount of commissions determined to be owed, plus pre-judgment interest, exemplary damages of three times the amount of all unpaid commissions, attorney's fees, costs of the action and other relief the court deems proper. It is represented by Adam Glazer and Matthew Tyrell of Schoenberg Finkel Newman & Rosenberg LLC in Chicago.
