CHICAGO — A client is suing Eckert & Smestad LLC, Emily Eckart, Adam Smestad, MPC Law Group, Melissa Casey, the Law Offices of Michael J. Nykaza and Michael Nykaza, citing alleged malpractice.
Sylvia Rouvas filed a complaint June 28 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging the defendants breached their duties to properly supervise her case.
According to the complaint, Rouvas has incurred significant legal fees and costs and did not receive an adequate sum of money to cover past, ongoing, and future medical expenses from a slip-and-fall injury. The plaintiff said she hired the defendants to represent her in her lawsuit against Harlem-Irving Cos., but they performed their duties in a negligent and incompetent manner.
Rouvas said the defendants allegedly failed to keep her informed of the progress of her case, failed to notify her when her case was dismissed, failed to prepare her for her deposition, failed to appear and defend her at a motion for summary judgment hearing and failed to sufficiently research the law applicable to her case.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a judgment for an amount greater than $50,000 and further relief as the court deems just. She is represented by James Bizzieri of Bizzieri Law Offices LLC in Chicago.
