Independent contractor blames Winnemac, Hi-Temp for fall from ladder

CHICAGO — An independent contractor is suing Winnemac Properties Inc., Hi-Temp Roofing Co. and Grady Humphries, citing alleged negligence.

William Lamar filed a complaint July 6 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging he was working as an independent contractor on Dec. 19, 2017, at a property owned by Winnemac when he allegedly fell from a defective ladder and suffered serious injuries and incurred related expenses.

Lamar said the defendants should be held responsible because they allegedly failed to provide a safe ladder for him to use, failed to properly inspect the area to ensure the ladder was secured and failed to warn him that the ladder was on an unstable surface.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a judgment in an amount in excess of the jurisdictional minimum, plus court costs. He is represented by John Malevitis of JL Malevitis & Associates Ltd. in Chicago.
