Couple blames Copley Memorial Hospital and doctor for wife's leg amputation

Medical malpractice 05

CHICAGO — A husband and wife are suing Copley Memorial Hospital Inc., Rush Copley Medical Center and Dr. Sea Chen, citing alleged loss of consortium and negligence.

Cindy Stringham and John Stringham filed a complaint July 16 in Cook County Circuit Court against the defendants, alleging they failed to properly diagnose Cindy Stringham's condition.

According to the complaint, Cindy Stringham underwent chemo-radiation therapy between June 6, 2016 and Aug. 31, 2016 and was repeatedly given the drug Cisplatin. The plaintiffs allege she experienced numbness and pain in her right leg, and her right lower leg was ultimately amputated.

The Stringhams said they hold the defendants responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to perform a proper workup related to Stringham's complaints and symptoms.

The plaintiffs seek in a sum in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, plus costs of this suit. They are represented by Stephen Phillips of Phillips Law Offices in Chicago.
