CHICAGO — A machine operator is suing Met-Pro Technologies LLC, which does business as Flex-Kleen, and Ceco Environmental Corp., citing alleged liability and negligence.

Flavio Marungo filed a complaint July 16 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging he was cleaning the inside of a Japanese bread crumb cyclone machine at employer Kerry Inc.'s food processing plant on Aug. 17, 2016, when his hand was sucked into the modified machine through the clean-out door that had been recently added, allegedly causing injuries that led to the amputation of his left hand.

Marungo said the alleged incident resulted in medical expenses, pain, emotional distress, disability, disfigurement and loss of earnings.

The plaintiff said the defendants allegedly failed to safely design the clean-out door modifications of the machine and failed to install a guard to protect the operator's limbs from passing through the access point into the pneumatic gate.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a $50,000 in damages, plus costs. He is represented by Joshua Weisberg, Matthew Sima and Kevin Kojs of Rapoport Law Offices PC in Chicago.
