CHICAGO — A patient is suing Cook County Health and Hospitals System, doing business as Vista Health Center of Cook County, and a nurse, citing alleged negligent supervision.

Sadeqa Khan filed a complaint July 19 in Cook County Circuit Court, claiming the defendants left her unattended in a hospital room.

According to the complaint, Khan came to the defendants' facility on July 20, 2016, because she had swollen feet. When Khan tried to stand up on a cloth a nurse had left near the chair she was sitting on, she allegedly slipped and fell and suffered serious injuries.

Khan said the defendants should be held responsible because they allegedly did not have adequate policies and procedures for properly monitoring patients who have trouble walking or to ensure they are providing a safe place to walk in an examination room.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a judgment in an amount greater than $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by Daniel Breen of Breen Goril Law in Chicago.
