Estate administrator blames Palos Community Hospital for patient's death

Medical malpractice 04

CHICAGO — An estate administrator is suing Palos Community Hospital and Dr. Daniel Pacella, citing alleged negligence.

Khalid Salah filed a complaint July 16 in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of the estate of the late Yousef Salah, alleging the defendants failed to provide services that met the professional standards of quality.

According to the complaint, Yousef Salah was brought to the defendants' facility in Palos Heights on July 15, 2016, for weakness, nausea and vomiting and was diagnosed with a bowel obstruction. Khalid Salah claims the defendants opted against surgery and wrongfully placed a nasogastric tube in Yousef Salah's lungs, rather than his stomach.

Consequently, the complaint alleges that Yousef Salah's condition deteriorated, and he died on July 28, 2016.

The plaintiff said the defendants should be held responsible because they allegedly delayed the surgical intervention necessary to relieve Yousef Salah's condition and save his life, negligently placed a nasogastric tube that caused severe complications and further injury and failed to realize the urgency and severity of the plaintiff's condition.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks a judgment in an amount greater than $50,000, plus costs of the action. He is represented by Ashley Murray of O'Connor Law Firm Ltd. in Chicago.
