Couple blames Copley Memorial Hospital for wife's leg amputation

Medical malpractice 02

CHICAGO — A couple is suing Copley Memorial Hospital Inc., Rush Copley Medical Center and Dr. Sea Chen MD, citing alleged negligence.

Cindy Stringham and John Stringham filed a complaint July 16 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging the defendants breached the professional standard of care and treatment.

According to the complaint, Cindy Stringham suffered a vascular occlusion on Aug. 8, 2016, that allegedly went undiagnosed and untreated, resulting in the amputation of her leg on Aug. 31, 2016.

The Stringhams claim the occlusion resulted from use of the cancer drug Cisplatin, which they allege is known to be associated with vascular thrombosis.

The plaintiffs said the defendants should be held responsible because they allegedly failed to properly diagnose and treat Cindy Stringham's condition, failed to take into account known side-effects of the drug and failed to consult with the patient.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek a judgment for damages in excess of the jurisdictional limits, plus costs of the action. They are represented by Stephen Phillips of Phillips Law Offices in Chicago.
