CHICAGO — A podcast host and professional wrestler is suing former wrestler Philip Jack Brooks, saying Brooks, whose statements on the podcast had allegedly precipitated a high-profile defamation lawsuit, now owes him more than $1 million for allegedly reneging on his alleged promise to pay the full cost of the legal defense.
Scott Colton filed a complaint Aug. 7 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging Brooks breached his duty of good faith and fair dealings.
Colton had been sued in 2015 by World Wrestling Entertainment's (WWE) Senior Ringside Physician Christopher Amman for discussing with Brooks on the podcast payment matters, injuries and other health issues concerning his departure from WWE.
Although Brooks allegedly promised to cover all of Colton's legal services and expenses, the lawsuit claims that in April 2016 the defendant suddenly demanded the plaintiff pay his share, and eventually caused law firm Loeb & Loeb to withdraw as his counsel on March 10, 2017.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks general damages in excess of $200,000, $1 million in punitive and exemplary damages, interest, costs of the lawsuit, attorney's fees and further relief as the court deems just. He is represented by Carey Stein of Ashman & Stein in Skokie.
