CHICAGO – A Chicago nursing facility is alleged to have failed to develop a care plan for a former resident's open wound.
Chaney A. Canty-Hillard, as independent administrator to collect of the estate of Winnie W. Canty, filed a complaint on Aug. 6 in Cook County Circuit Court against The Estates of Hyde Park; and Kindred Hospital Chicago-North, citing the Nursing Home Care Act and Wrongful Death Act.
According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that from Aug. 9, 2016, to Jan. 2, 2017, Canty became a resident of The Estates of Hyde Park for long-term care and treatment.
The suit states Canty was admitted with an open area to her coccyx and the defendants failed to include wound treatment or turning and repositioning in the care plan. The suit states the wound worsened and more developed, and when she was discharged to hospice care in December 2016, many had not healed. The suit states she died in January 2017.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an amount in excess of the court's jurisdictional limit for the injuries, losses, and damages as alleged. She is represented by attorney Benjamin Carter of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.
