CHICAGO — A woman is suing doctor Clifford Kavinsky and Rush University Medical Center, citing alleged medical malpractice.

Bingbing Zhu filed a complaint on Aug. 10 in Cook County Circuit Court alleging the doctor improperly placed a catheter, which caused her right coronary artery to be dissected. She further claims that the doctor failed to recognize the problem and correct it.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that a left heart cardiac catheterization was performed on May 30, 2017, by the defendant physician. During the procedure, Dr. Kavinsky improperly positioned the catheter, which led to acute myocardial infarction, requiring a second surgery.

The plaintiff holds Clifford Kavinsky, M.D., and Rush University Medical Center responsible because the defendants allegedly had the duty to possess and use knowledge and skill used by a qualified interventional cardiologist which he failed to provide and practice during the medical procedure. The Medical Center is liable for the negligent acts and omissions of its employee, Dr. Kavinsky, according to the complaint.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks an amount in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limit. She is represented by James M. Sanford, John K, Kennedy and Daniel Watkins II of James D. Montgomery & Associates Ltd in Chicago.
