CHICAGO — A special administrator is suing Advocate Christ Medical Center, as well as several physicians, citing alleged medical malpractice.

Richard Gonzalez, as special administrator of the estate of Barbarito Gonzalez, filed a complaint on Aug. 13 in Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate Health and Hospitals, Advocate Christ Medical Center, Advocate Medical Group, Advocate Health Care Network, Advocate Healthcare, Metro Infectious Disease, and doctors, including Steven C. Schaefer; Hans Blunck; and Sunita Singh, alleging the defendants breached their duty to exercise the knowledge, skill and care used by a reasonably careful health-care provider.

Barbarito Gonzalez went to the emergency department on Aug. 16, 2016, allegedly with complaints of rectal pain. He was later diagnosed as having a perianal abscess and overlying skin necrosis but allegedly was not examined and treated, according to court documents.

No surgery was allegedly performed, causing him to suffer conditions that allegedly resulted in his death from sepsis, perianal abscess and necrotizing fasciitis.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount greater than $50,000 plus concomitant costs and interest. He is represented by Daniel J. Bioderman, Jr. of Leonard Law Group, LLC in Chicago.
