Wife claims husband's sudden death due to misdiagnosis of heart condition

CHICAGO — A widow is suing physicians and medical facilities, citing alleged medical malpractice and an alleged violation of the Wrongful Death Act..

Elizabeth Romer, as independent administrator of the estate of Derrek G. Romer, filed a complaint on Aug. 24 in Cook County Circuit Court against Du Page Medical Group, which does business as Lombard After Hours Care; Elmhurst Cardiology; and doctors Robert A. Rauh and Eliseo Roquiz.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible for allegedly failing to recognize the severity of Romer's congestive heart failure and failing to admit him to the hospital for aggressive treatment of congestive heart failure.

According to the complaint,beginning in November 2016, Romer was seen by physicians, who allegedly ultimately diagnosed Derrek Romer with an upper respiratory infection and sent him home. On Dec. 27, 2016, he suffered respiratory arrest and died.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment for damages greater than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Sean P. Driscoll, of Clifford Law Offices PC in Chicago.
