Heyl Royster issued the following announcement on Aug. 31.
Mike Kokal was featured in the “Top Business Lawyers in Illinois” issue of Leading Lawyers Magazine in an article entitled “Springfield Advocate’s Tech Background and Calm Demeanor Shine.” The article discusses Kokal’s broad technical background in areas such as electrical engineering, cybersecurity and information privacy, as well as the fact he is licensed to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The author also noted, “the calm, cool and collected Kokal chairs Heyl Royster’s cybersecurity and data privacy practice group.”
From the cybersecurity perspective, the article quotes Kokal talking about how small companies are the fastest-growing targets for cybercriminals. “They view them as the low-hanging fruit because they don’t have a lot of the cyber defenses that a more sophisticated company would have in mind,” he said.
Kokal helps companies to develop cybersecurity policies as well as with how to respond after a breach, the article noted. The article also talks about Kokal’s wide range of interests and hobbies (family being at the top of the list), and includes a picture of Kokal standing next to a portrait of Renaissance man, Sir Thomas More.
