Wrongful term 06

CHICAGO – A Cook County woman alleges she was terminated from her position with an advertising company because of her pregnancy.

Michelle Maro filed a complaint on Aug. 31 in Cook County Circuit Court against Commuter Advertising Inc. over alleged violation of Illinois Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, Maro was employed by the defendant as president of sales beginning in January 2016. The suit states she informed the defendant's founder in January 2017 of her pregnancy and on Feb. 6, 2017, she was terminated while at a Starbucks.

The plaintiff alleges her pregnancy was "all or part of" the reason she was terminated.

The plaintiff holds Commuter Advertising Inc. responsible because the defendant allegedly terminated her without a legitimate reason and the defendant intentionally engaged in pregnancy discrimination.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount of more than $50,000, plus punitive damages, attorney fees, costs and other relief. She is represented by Gregory A. Friedman and Michelle L. Carey of Freidman Maguire & Carey PC in Chicago.
