CHICAGO — A former resident is suing Concord Place Retirement Assisted Living Community and other organizations, claiming negligence after his right leg was partially amputated due to an infected skin ulcer.
Named as defendants are Concord Place, Concord Place Retirement Assisted Living Community, Concord Place Retirement Community and Assisted Living Community and International Health Systems Inc.
Michael McGuigan filed a complaint on Sept. 5 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging in 2016, while he was still a resident of defendant's assisted living facility commonly known as Concord Place, he experienced pain and suffering from a skin ulcer he allegedly developed on his ankle as a result of negligence by his caretakers.
Alleged lack of treatment for the skin ulcer resulted in infection and gangrene, according to court documents. McGuigan's right leg had to be amputated above the knee because of the infection, according to the lawsuit.
The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendants greater than $50,000. He is represented by Michael T. Mertz of Hurley McKenna & Mertz PC in Chicago.
