CHICAGO — Southpoint Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is facing a lawsuit from a man who claims the nursing facility failed to adequately treat his mother's ulcers, which allegedly contributed to her death in 2016.

Clides Coker, as special administrator of Diane Coker's estate, filed a complaint on Sept. 4 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging Diane Coker was a resident at the facility on Feb. 25, 2015, when she allegedly suffered from ulcers that contributed to her death. According to court documents, she became ill from dehydration, vomiting and an abdominal infection prior to her death.

The plaintiff holds Southpoint Nursing & Rehabilitation Center LLC responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to provide adequate assistance during a transfer to the plaintiff and failed to properly instruct its nursing staff as to the proper use of assistive devices.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount greater than $30,000 together with costs and attorney fees. He is represented by attorney Corey E. Meyer in Chicago.
