CHICAGO — Leonard Underwood, estate administrator for his late wife, Sheila Moore-Underwood, filed a complaint on Sept. 7 in Cook County Circuit Court, against physicians Conner M. O'Keefe and Arijit Dasgupta, Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, and medical practice Chicago Heart and Vascular Consultants.

Underwood alleges violation of the Wrongful Death Act of Illinois.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 13, 2016, Moore-Underwood returned to defendants' facility with cardiac symptoms, including shortness of breath and chest pain.

She allegedly received care and treatment below the standard of care, resulting in permanent injuries that contributed to her death on Sept. 17, 2016, according to the complaint.

Her premature death left her husband and children without her companionship, the suit alleges.

The plaintiff holds the defendants responsible because they allegedly failed to appreciate the decedent's medical/cardiac history, failed to order a stress test, angiogram or other necessary diagnostic tests.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in such amount in excess of the court's jurisdictional requisite and adequately compensate plaintiff for the injuries, losses, and damages. He is represented by Michael S. Shinsky and Jennifer K. Scifo of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.
