CHICAGO — The city of Chicago and Chicago paramedics are being blamed in the death of a pregnant woman and permanent injuries to her child, after they allegedly failed to "timely transport" the unconscious woman "to the closest emergency facility," according to court documents.

Christopher Lacina filed a complaint on Sept. 11 in Cook County Circuit Court, against the city of Chicago, alleging that city paramedics breached the professional standard of care and treatment.

The plaintiff alleges, on Sept. 13, 2017, paramedics failed to provide Jacqueline Lacina, who was eight months pregnant, with appropriate and immediate medical care.

Jacqueline did not "receive appropriate and timely medical care, which resulted in her death," according to the complaint.

According to the complaint, paramedics arrived at Lacina's apartment at 9:37 a.m., departed for the hospital at 10:02 a.m., and arrived at the Little Company of Mary Hospital emergency department at 10:07 a.m.

The infant allegedly sustained permanent injuries, including brain injury, disability and disfigurement. The infant allegedly was delivered by an emergency C-section performed by staff of the hospital.

Christopher Lacina claims to have suffered injuries from her death, including loss of her companionship, society, consortium, grief, sorrow and mental anguish, as a result of the negligence of the defendants.

The plaintiff holds the city of Chicago responsible for allegedly failing to timely transport Lacina to the closest emergency facility and to perform appropriate resuscitation.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against the defendant in an amount greater than $50,000. He is represented by Jordan S. Powell of Powell Law Offices in Chicago and Matthew A. Passen of Passen Law Group in Chicago.
