Clark Hill PLC issued the following announcement on Sept. 17.
Clark Hill PLC announced that Nancy Schimmel has joined the firm as a Member in the firm’s Banking & Financial Services Business Unit based in the Chicago office, where she will focus on advising financial institutions and other entities on securitization and structured finance transactions, as well as representing both lenders and borrowers in traditional bank and asset based finance and secured and unsecured bank debt.
“We are excited that Nancy has joined Clark Hill’s Chicago office,” said Ray J. Koenig III, Member-in-Charge of the firm’s Chicago office. “As we continue to expand our team of lawyers not only in Chicago but globally, the addition of well known and skilled lawyers such as Nancy adds significant value for our clients.”
Schimmel represents domestic and foreign banks, their commercial paper conduits and the originators of loan, lease and trade receivables in connection with both on- and off-balance sheet securitizations of trade, loan and lease receivables. She has worked on transactions involving diverse assets, including hotel mortgage and agribusiness loans; auto and equipment leases; and trade receivables of U.S. companies and their Mexican and Canadian subsidiaries involved in numerous industries.
Banking & Financial Services Leader Jeffrey Conn noted, “Nancy is the perfect fit for Clark Hill’s sophisticated banking and finance practice. Our team has extensive experience in structuring, negotiating and documenting a wide range of financing transactions across industries, and Nancy’s focus and experience in this area will add depth to our bench.”
Schimmel has also represented numerous banking clients in connection with structured installment timberland purchases, securities-backed class action settlement letters of credit and a variety of other structured financings. Nancy has also assisted both lenders and borrowers with secured and unsecured working capital and leveraged acquisition financings, as well as high-yield bridge and debtor-in-possession financings.
“Clark Hill’s global reach and diversity of practice sectors was an appealing platform for this next stage of my practice,” Schimmel noted. “I’m delighted to be working with such a collegial and talented team of lawyers, and look forward to supporting the firm’s clients.”
Immediately prior to joining Clark Hill, Schimmel was a partner in the Chicago office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP, where she was a member of the Corporate Department, co-chair of the Firm’s Lending & Structured Finance Practice Group, and chair of its New York Law Practice Group.
Schimmel received her B.A., cum laude with highest honors in History, from Williams College where she is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and her M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Founded in 1890, Clark Hill has been significantly expanding since 2013, beginning with the addition of 100 lawyers from Thorp Reed & Armstrong. In 2017, the firm merged with Los Angeles-based Morris Polich & Purdy LLP and added nearly 100 more lawyers, and in 2018 the firm combined with Texas-based Strasburger & Price, adding 200 additional lawyers in Texas, New York, Washington, D.C. and Mexico City.
