NorthShore Evanston Hospital alleged to have failed to diagnose deceased patient's surgery complication

CHICAGO – An Evanston medical facility is facing a suit from a widow who alleges it failed to diagnose a surgery complication that led to her husband's death.

Janis Steber, individually and as independent administrator of the estate of Joseph Steber, filed a complaint on Sept. 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against Northshore Evanston Hospital, alleging on Sept. 14, 2016, Joseph Steber underwent a minimally invasive throat procedure at the defendant's hospital. The suit states he died Sept. 23, 2016, allegdly as a result of complications from the surgery. 

The plaintiff holds Northshore University Healthsystem responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to timely and competently respond to clinical signs and symptoms and failed to timely diagnose and treat the condition.

The plaintiff seeks judgment against defendant for a sum of more than $50,000. She is represented by Matthew A. Passen of Passen Law Group in Chicago and Jordan S. Powell of Powell Law Offices in Chicago.
