CHICAGO – A patient of a Cook County facility alleges he suffered respiratory failure and other issues because of a failure to timely remove his appendix.

Craig Keehn filed a complaint on Sept. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against Advocate Condell Medical Center; Chicago Surgical Clinic LTD; and physician Guiseppe Gagliardi, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 8 Keehn went to the Condell Medical Center emergency department with complaints of worsening abdominal pain. The suit states a CT scan was done that identified acute appendicitis and Gagliardi performed a laparoscopic appendectomy.

The plaintiff alleges on Jan. 9, another doctor discovered Gagliardi had not removed his appendix and he had significant pain and worsening symptoms. The suit states he underwent another procedure on Jan. 11 and remained hospitalized until Feb. 3. Keen alleges he suffered acute respiratory failure, became septic and needed extensive physical therapy as a result.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment in an amount of more than $50,000 together with costs of action. He is represented by Patrick A. Salvi, Tara R. Devine and Eirene N. Salvi of Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard PC in Chicago.
