Barack Ferrazzano congratulates partner Sarah Bernstein as the 2018 Public Interest Law Initiative President. PILI is a legal aid and public interest law organization. PILI was established with the mission of cultivating a lifelong commitment to public interest law and pro bono service by creating opportunities for law students and attorneys to extend legal services to those in need. In its 40th year, PILI is a recognized leader in the legal community, promoting a culture of public service in Illinois and nationwide.

Sarah serves as co-chair of the Firm’s Motor Vehicle Group; and is a member of the Corporate & Securities, Financial Institutions and Fashion, Luxury & Retail Groups. She is an active member of numerous Firm committees as well, becoming one of the first female partners elected to the Firm’s Management Committee in January 2018.

Her work with PILI began in 2008, when she was co-chair of the Firm’s Pro Bono Committee. Since joining, Sarah became a part of PILI’s Program Planning Team and was elected to its Board of Directors in 2009. Following her election to the board, Sarah served as treasurer, secretary and vice president. She also has served on the Executive and Fundraising Committees and as the chair of the Long Range Planning Committee.

In addition to her work with PILI, Sarah has served on the board of directors for North Lawndale Employment Network as vice president. Her dedication to pro bono work has been recognized by The Law Project, in “Women Leaders in Pro Bono Legal Services." Sarah is a powerful advocate of PILI’s mission, demonstrating leadership by example.
