CHICAGO – A Deerfield accounting firm is alleged to have failed to advise a company of sales taxes in financial statements.

International Precision Components Corp. filed a complaint on Sept. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against Miller Cooper & Co. alleging professional negligence.

According to the complaint, beginning in 2010, the defendant acted as the plaintiff's accountant and auditor. The plaintiff alleges in October 2016, its president became aware that the defendant failed to advise it of "significant tax liabilities" dating to 2011. The plaintiff said these liabilities totaled more than $1.8 million and were owed to more than a dozen states.

The plaintiff holds Miller Cooper & Co. LTD responsible because the defendant allegedly failed to advise plaintiff of its liability to pay sales taxes in various states, failed to perform its accounting and auditing services in accordance with generally acceptable standards, and failed to properly advise plaintiff of potential tax problems in time for plaintiff to avoid or mitigate its effect.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment against defendant in an amount of more than $30,000 to be proved at trial, legal fees and costs and further relief as the court deems just. It is represented by Scott H. Kenig of Randall & Kenig in Chicago.
