CHICAGO – A McHenry County couple is seeking damages from Chicago law firm over its handling of their case.

Carol and James Sweet filed a complaint on Sept. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against George L. Grumely and the firm of Grumley, Kamin, Wexler and Rosic LLC alleging legal malpractice.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs hired the defendants to represent them in a case they filed against other parties over allegations of fraud and fraudulent investment venture. They allege the defendants breached the standard of care by coercing them into a settlement. They also allege they paid the defendants more than $65,000 and Grumley did "absolutely nothing," the suit states. They estimate they have suffered losses of at least $200,000, according to the complaint.

The plaintiffs hold Grumely and Grumley, Kamin, Wexler and Rosic LLC responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to properly investigate and prosecute the malpractice claim and failed to promptly file malpractice case delaying until filling such case was too late.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek judgment and a refund of their attorney fees and other relief. They are represented by Thomas W. Gooch III of The Gooch Firm in Wauconda.
