CHICAGO – A Cook County woman alleges she was not properly assessed for neurovascular injuries after a surgery in 2017.

Rita Stellato filed a complaint on Oct. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against physicians Thomas J. Obermeyer Jr.. and James Huang; Barrington Orthopedic Specialists LTD, and others, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 7, 2017, Stellato came under the medical care of the defendants and Obermeyer performed a right total hip arthroplasty the same day. She alleges after the procedure, she was prescribed Coumadin, developed hypotension and was admitted into intensive care. She alleges she continued to have medical issues and on Oct. 10, 2017, needed emergency surgery to address effects attributed to a right common femoral artery injury.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to appropriately assess her for neurovascular injury, failed to perform a proper physical exam and failed to appreciate the risk of anticoagulating with Coumadin in the presence of a vascular injury.

The plaintiff seeks judgment for damages in an amount in excess of the jurisdictional limit. She is represented by the Nolan Law Group in Chicago.
