CHICAGO – A mother has filed a wrongful death suit against a hospital and physician after her daughter was stillborn.

Crystal Pass, as special administrator of her daughter, filed a complaint on Oct. 12 in Cook County Circuit Court against MacNeal Hospital and associated defendants, Gottlieb Community Health Services Corp., Loyola University Health System, Trinity Health Corporation, and others, alleging medical negligence and wrongful death.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 13, 2016, Pass went to MacNeal Hospital at 35 weeks of pregnancy, and her ultrasound examination showed that the child had a fetal heart rate of 136-141 beats per minute and was alive, but was in a breech presentation. It also revealed Pass had oligohydramnios. She alleges the ultrasound result was sent to a nurse, but no further treatment was ordered.

On Oct. 15, 2016, Pass went to MacNeal Hospital with acute vaginal bleeding and the following day, the child was delivered stillborn and pronounced dead.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to properly interpret Pass' ultrasounds and to perform an emergency cesarean section delivery of the child in a timely manner.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks judgment of more than $50,000. She is represented by Mark R. McKenna of Hurley McKenna & Mertz P.C in Chicago.
