CHICAGO – A wrongful death suit has been filed against several physicians and medical facilities over allegations they failed to properly treat a woman's neurological condition.
Theodor Caul, as executor of the estate of Gayl Caul, filed a complaint on Oct. 31 in Cook County Circuit Court against Palos Community Hospital, physician Sreenpathy Kannan; Manor Care of Oak Law West, and others, citing negligence and the Wrongful Death Act.
According to the complaint, on Oct. 24, 2016, Gayl Caul went to the Palos Heights Emergency Department with complaints of generalized weakness after a fall in her home. The suit states she was admitted to the hospital and discharged Oct. 28, 2016.
The suit states that Kannan did not obtain a comprehensive neurological or medical history from Caul or perform an adequate examination. The plaintiff alleges Caul showed signs of Wernicke's syndrome, a neurological disease caused by a thiamine deficiency.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants' conduct contributed to her death on Nov. 8, 2016.
The plaintiff alleges the defendants allegedly failed to properly assess Caul's neurological status and condition and failed to properly treat her.
The plaintiff seeks judgment for a sum in excess of the minimum jurisdictional amount of the court, plus all costs. He is represented by Jeffrey M. Brown of Salvato O'Toole & Froylan in Chicago.
