CHICAGO – A former financial securities trader and adviser alleges he is disabled and that his insurer wrongfully terminated his benefits.

Steven Fox filed a complaint on Nov. 1 in Cook County Circuit Court against Unum Group Corp. alleging breach of contract and bad faith.

According to the complaint, in 2014, Fox was diagnosed with a heart condition that left him totally disabled under the terms of his disability insurance policy provided by the defendant. The suit states the defendant initially approved his disability claim in July 2014 and then terminated his benefits in 2017.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant terminated his benefits before conducting an investigation.

The plaintiff seeks judgment for disability benefits, award of statutory fines, fees, costs, attorney fees, and all other relief the court deems just and equitable. He is represented by William F. Kelley and Scott C. Zambo of Kelley, Kelley & Kelley in Schaumburg.
